Arrrgh….P is for Pirates, Matey!

Today we had lots of swash buckling  fun with Pirates!  Pirates have become quite popular lately and I was able to find books, songs and crafts all about them.  I loved getting into character reading these stories with a pirate accent!

If You’re a Pirate and You Know It

If you’re a pirate and you know it, swab the deck (swish, swish)

If you’re a pirate and you know it, swab the deck (swish, swish)

If you’re a pirate and you know it, then you’ll hear the sea winds blowin’

If you’re a pirate and you know it, swab the deck (swish, swish)

If you’re a pirate and you know it, walk the plank (stomp, stomp)

If you’re a pirate and you know it, walk the plank (stomp, stomp)

If you’re a pirate and you know it, then you’ll hear the sea winds blowin’

If you’re a pirate and you know it, walk the plank (stomp, stomp)

If you’re a pirate and you know it shout A’hoy!

If you’re a pirate and you know it shout A’hoy!

If you’re a pirate and you know it, then you’ll hear the sea winds blowin’

If you’re a pirate and you know it shout A’hoy!

Do Pirates Take Baths? by Kathy Tucker

A few excerpts from “Do Pirates Take Baths?”

What do pirates eat?

Salty cod

(or sometimes scrod)

with hardtack that’s tough to chew;

they never eat pizza-

instead, they dine

on seaweed and barnacle stew.

Do pirates take baths?

Just once in a while,

when they smell very bad,

they jump into the seas.

They use sea foam

to wash their hair

and shells to scrub their knees.

Pajama Pirates by Andrew Kramer

The following song is a favorite with my own children.  My daughter loved the children’s band Milkshake.  They have a song all about pirates!  Click here to hear it!

Pirates

by Milkshake

I am the master of my fate, the captain of my ship

I choose to sail the seven seas and make the most of it

Adventure waits for all who come so climb aboard, m’mate

We’ll head due west when the winds are best-oh, I can h-argh-dly wait

Heigh ho

Hoist the anchor, friends

Heigh ho

come sail the seas agian

We plot our course, feeling bold, and head for Starry Isle

Where sand is colored pink and gold and unicorns run wild

The trees are full of talking birds, the flowers bloom all year

I know there’s buried treasure there-I have the map right here.

And just like Grace O’Malley, Bonny Anne, or Mary Reade

I’ll be the bravest pirate the world has ever seen

And Old Pegleg, or Black Bart or even Rackham Jack

Have nothing on you this very fine crew so raise the good Blackjack

Heigh ho

Out in the ocean blue

Heigh ho

Pirates me and you
