Arrrrrgh, lots of Pirate fun!!

Ahoy, matey!  We had an awesome first week of summer camp!  It was pirate week and we read books, sang songs and talked just like pirates.  We even had The Purple Pirate come and visit and perform amazing pirate magic tricks for us!

Sing With Me

Pirate Play

(to the tune: “Five Little Ducks”)

One little pirate went out to play

On a pirate ship one day

He had such enormous fun.

He called on another friend to come.

Arrr! Arrr!

(keep singing and adding pirates as you go, until you get to 5)

Five little pirates went out to play

On a pirate ship one day.

They had such enormous fun,

They played and played till the day was done!

I am the master of my fate, The captain of my ship
I choose to sail the seven seas and make the most if it.

Adventure waits for all who come so climb aboard m’ mate

We’ll head due west when the winds are best Oh, I can h-argh-dly wait.
Heigh ho (Heigh ho)

 Hoist the anchor friends

Heigh ho (heigh ho)

   Come sail the seas again.
We plot our course, feeling bold And head for Starry Isle Where sand is colored pink and gold and unicorns run wild.

The trees are full of talking birds, the flowers bloom all year I know there’s buried treasure there I have the map right here.

And just like Grace O’Malley, Bonny Anne or Mary Reade

I‘ll be the bravest pirate that the world has ever seen.

And Old Pegleg, or Black Bart or even Rackham Jack

Have nothing on you or this very fine crew so raise the good blackjack.
Heigh ho (Heigh ho)
Hoist the anchor friends
Heigh ho (heigh ho)
Come sail the seas again.
Heigh Ho (Heigh Ho)
Out in the ocean blue
Heigh Ho (Heigh Ho)
Pirates me and you.

A Pirate Says Arrr!

If you want to be a pirate,
Get up on your feet.
You can’t be a pirate,
If you’re sitting in your seat.
Swing your arms tough,
And stand kind of low,
And make this noise wherever you go.

Arrr! Arrr! Arrr!
A pirate, a pirate, a pirate says “Arrr!”
It might seem strange, just a bit bizarre,
But they know you’re a pirate,
When they hear you say “Arrr!”

Arrr! Arrr! Arrr!
A pirate, a pirate, a pirate says “Arrr!”
You wear a spare part, a bandana and a scar,
and they know you’re a pirate,
When they hear you say “Arrr!”

The Jolly Roger is the pirate flag,
A skull and some bones on a big black rag.
We’ll fly it on our ship, up above the sails,
And we’ll search for treasure,
And be tough as nails!

Arrr! Arrr! Arrr!
A pirate, a pirate, a pirate says “Arrr!”
If you think we’re noisy, you’re right, we are,
’cause they know you’re a pirate,
When they hear you say “Arrr!”

Story Time

preschool pirate books

We read “Do Pirates Take Baths?” by Kathy Tucker,  “Pajama Pirates” by Andrew Kramer and  “Pirate Pete” by Kim Kennedy.

Game Time

pirate game

Arrrr!  Arrrr!  Look what we found:

A treasure chest buried in the ground!

Pirate [Child’s name] came along one day.

[She] took [number] gold coins and ran away!

We used a treasure chest filled with pirates booty to play this game and each child got a turn to find the number of coins or necklaces that was said in the poem.

Arts and Crafts

preschool pirate craft

We made pirates out of paper plates and skin tone paint.  We then added a bandana, google eye, and an eye patch to complete our pirate face.
