Slithery Snakes….

February 16, 2012

Today we learned all about snakes!  Slithery, slippery, sneaky snakes…..and the letter Ss too! We even pretended to slither across the floor like a snake during Circle Time.

A Silly Snake

(to the tune If You’re Happy and You Know It)

Oh, I wish I was a silly, slippery snake!

Oh, I wish I was a silly, slippery snake!

Oh, I’d slither across the floor and I’d slip on out the door

Oh, I wish I was a silly, slippery snake!

Seasons…

February 15, 2012

Today we learned all about the four seasons.   We talked about what happens in each season and which season the children liked best.  Here in Florida we have just two seasons: Hot and not so hot! But, with the songs and books, the children have a good understanding about the changes that happen up north through out the year.

The Seasons

(to the tune of London Bridge)

Spring, summer, fall, winter

Fall, winter, fall, winter

Spring, summer, fall, winter

What’s your favorite season?

I like tulips in the spring, in the spring, in the spring

I like tulips in the spring, they are pretty!

I like cherries in the summer, in the summer, in the summer

I like cherries in the summer, they are juicy!

I like chestnuts in the fall, in the fall, in the fall

I like chestnuts in the fall, they are yummy!

I like snow in the winter, in the winter, in the winter

I like snow in the winter, brrrr it’s cold!

Silly Spaghetti….

February 14, 2012

Today we  had fun with spaghetti!  We read a book called More Spaghetti, I Say by Rita Golden Geldman, sang a really silly song:  “On Top of Spaghetti” and then played with spaghetti in the sensory table!  It was a fun way to learn the letter Ss!

The kids loved this song and giggled when we sang about sneezing the meatball off of the table.  This song was originally written and performed by Tom Glazer in 1963.  I can remember singing it when I was little in elementary school music class.

On Top of Spaghetti

(to the tune of On Top of Old Smokey)

On top of spaghetti,
All covered with cheese,
I lost my poor meatball,
When somebody sneezed.

It rolled off the table,
And on to the floor,
And then my poor meatball,
Rolled out of the door.

It rolled in the garden,
And under a bush,
And then my poor meatball,
Was nothing but mush.

The mush was as tasty
As tasty could be,
And then the next summer,
It grew into a tree.

The tree was all covered,
All covered with moss,
And on it grew meatballs,
And tomato sauce.

So if you eat spaghetti,
All covered with cheese,
Hold on to your meatball,
Whenever you sneeze.

I have had this book for a long time.  It has such a great sing-song pace to it, much like a Dr. Seuss book.
