Today we started the week with letter Ss.  I found a book called Some Smug Slug by Pamela Duncan Edwards  and based today’s lesson entirely on this book.  Normally I wouldn’t have ever thought of teaching about slugs, but this book is FULL of S words!  Every animal and adjective starts with the letter S.  So of course we then had to make a slug and a shiny trail behind him and learn a song to go along with it as well.  The kids really had fun talking about the slug and what a slug might feel like.  It really opened the conversation during Circle Time.

It’s A Slug

Sliding and gliding, slowly in the pond
Traveling on one foot, moving along
Scraping away at their food all day
Leaving a trail as they make their way.

Oh, it’s a slug!
It’s a slug!
Oh, it’s a slug!
It’s a slug!
A mollusk in the pond
Just trying to get along
Oh, it’s a slug!
It’s a slug!

Today was our class Valentine’s Day party!  We had so much fun getting ready for our day.  We have been hard at work making all kinds of cute crafts and our mail boxes to hold our cards and treats.

Red Rubber Boot Day!

February 7, 2012

Today’s ideas completely came from an adorable book called Red Rubber Boot Day by Mary Lyn Ray and illustrated by Lauren Stringer.  I fell in love with this book when I found it and the pictures in this book are gorgeous!  It is all about a little boy and his rainy day adventures.  I  got inspiration for our craft from the book and we made red rubber boots splashing in the rain.  It just so happened to be raining today…perfect for learning the letter R and reading Red Rubber Boot Day!

Rain Rain

(to the tune of Row, Row, Row Your Boat)

Rain, rain falling down

Landing all around.

What a lovely sound you make

Splashing on the ground.
