In an Octopus’s garden….

January 19, 2012

Today we learned all about the octopus and the letter O.  We read an octopus book, sang a few octopus songs and made a hand print octopus too!

Octopus

(to the tune of “If You’re Happy and You Know it”)

Oh, I wish I was an orange octopus.

Oh, I wish I was an orange octopus.

Oh, I’d wave my lovely legs,

And I’d splash in all the waves.

Oh, I wish I was an orange octopus.

Oh, I wish I was an oval octopus.

Oh, I wish I was an oval octopus.

Oh, I’d wave my lovely legs,

And I’d splash in all the waves.

Oh, I wish I was an oval octopus.

I love this song by the Beatles!  It is so whimsical and fun, you can’t help but smile when you hear it!  Click below to hear it performed by the Muppets.

Octopus’s Garden

by Ringo Starr

I’d like to be under the sea
In an octopus’ garden in the shade
He’d let us in, knows where we’ve been
In his octopus’ garden in the shade

I’d ask my friends to come and see
An octopus’ garden with me
I’d like to be under the sea
In an octopus’ garden in the shade.

We would be warm below the storm
In our little hideaway beneath the waves
Resting our head on the sea bed
In an octopus’ garden near a cave

We would sing and dance around
Because we know we can’t be found
I’d like to be under the sea
In an octopus’ garden in the shade

We would shout and swim about
The coral that lies beneath the waves
(Lies beneath the ocean waves)
Oh what joy for every girl and boy
Knowing they’re happy and they’re safe
(Happy and they’re safe)

We would be so happy you and me
No one there to tell us what to do
I’d like to be under the sea
In an octopus’ garden with you.

Owls…

January 18, 2012

Yesterday (Tuesday) we started the week with Owls. We had a lot of fun learning a song, reading a book and making a craft all about Owls!

Little Owl

(to the tune of “This Old Man”)

Little owl, in the tree,

He is winking down at me.

With a wink, wink, wink, wink,

All through the night,

Little owl is quite a sight!

Little owl, in the tree,

He is hooting down at me.

With a hoot, hoot, hoot, hoot,

All through the night,

Little Owl is quite a sight!

O is for Ostrich….

This week, we are learning all about the letter Oo.  Today we learned all about the Ostrich!  It is such a strange animal from Africa, with his long neck and large flightless body.  They are very fast, running at about 31 mph.  We got our exercise today too by running in place like an ostrich during Circle Time. We read some books about the Ostrich and even made a cute hand print ostrich too!

Odd Ostrich

(to the tune of “If You’re Happy and You Know It”)

Oh, I wish I was an odd ostrich.

Oh, I wish I was an odd ostrich.

Oh, I’d run really fast,

And I’d sleep in the grass.

Oh, I wish I was an odd ostrich.
