Goats!

October 20, 2011

Today we learned all about goats for letter Gg!  We read “The Three Bully Goats”  By Leslie Kimmelman.   We learned a cute song all about billy goats and then made a paper plate goat during craft time.  It was a  fun Thursday!  We are looking forward to our Mother Goose/Storybook Parade tomorrow!  It will be a fun way to end the week.  Be sure to check back for photos….

Billy Goat, Billy Goat

(to the tune “Baa Baa Black Sheep)

Billy Goat, Billy Goat

As hungry as can be,

Eats and eats,

Everything he sees.

You can eat the grass,

You can eat the leaves,

Just make sure,

You don’t eat me!

Billy Goat, Billy Goat

As hungry as can be,

Eats and eats,

Everything he sees.

For this craft, I bent each side of a paper plate towards the middle and stapled it down.  Then trimmed fringe for the goats beard at the bottom of the plate.  For the horns I cut two rounded curves from the edge of another paper plate and two rounded triangles for the ears.  To make the ears, I pinched the wide side of the triangle together and then stapled it to the goats head.

Gee….It’s a Giraffe!

October 19, 2011

We continued with the letter Gg and learned all about Giraffes!  We read the really cute book “Giraffes Can’t Dance” by Giles Andreae, about a giraffe named Gerald who is made fun of because he can’t dance, but then learns to believe in himself and dance to his own beat.  We sang our zoo song again but instead of gorilla, we substituted giraffe in the song.  Then we made paper plate giraffes.  We had a fun day!  Don’t forget our Story Book Dress up is on Friday and we are working hard reciting and learning our Nursery Rhymes Rock A Bye Baby and the Queen of Hearts.  It is going to be a fun and exciting day!

Have You Been to the Zoo?

(to the tune of “The Muffin Man”)

Oh, have you been to see the zoo,

To see the zoo, to see the zoo?

Oh, have you been to see the zoo,

To see the yellow giraffe?

The giraffe in the zoo says “Stretch your neck”,

stretch your neck, stretch your neck.

The giraffe in the zoo says “Stretch your neck”,

All through the day.

G is for Gorilla…

October 17, 2011

Today we started the week with the letter Gg!  We talked all about Gorillas.  We read two stories, “Goodnight Gorilla” by Peggy Rathmann and “Be Good, Gorilla” by Maria Fleming from the Alpha Tales book.  We sang a really cute song about the zoo and Gorillas and then made a Gorilla craft out of paper plates!  It was a fun Monday!

Have You Been to the Zoo?

(to the tune of “The Muffin Man”)

Oh, have you been to see the zoo,

To see the zoo, to see the zoo?

Oh, have you been to see the zoo,

To see the black gorilla?

The gorilla in the zoo goes thumpty, thumpty, thump (beat on chest)

thumpty, thumpty, thump (beat on chest)

thumpty, thumpty, thump (beat on chest).

The gorilla in the zoo goes  thumpty, thumpty, thump

All through the day.
