Just Ducky!

October 1, 2011

We ended Dd week learning all about ducks.  We read the children’s classic “Make Way For Ducklings” by Robert McClosky and “One Duck, Another Duck” by Charlotte Pomerantz.  We sang some ducky songs and then made a cute duck craft!  I love Make Way for Ducklings, it brings you to a time when police officers directed traffic, women and men wore hats and people stopped to notice things.  The song The Little White Duck is a really old song that my own mother used to sing to me when I was little and now I sing it to my own children and class.

The Little White Duck

There’s a little white duck sitting in the water
a little white duck doing what he oughter
he took a bite of a lily pad
flapped his wings and he said “I’m glad
I’m a little white duck sitting in the water
quack! quack! quack!”

there’s a little green frog swimming in the water
a little green frog doing what he oughter
he jumped right off of the lily pad
that the little duck bit and he said “I’m glad
I’m a little green frog swimming in the water
ribbit! ribbit! ribbit!”

there’s a little black bug floating on the water
a little black bug doing what he oughter
he tickled the frog on the lily pad
that the little duck bit and he said “I’m glad
I’m a little black bug floating on the water
bzzz! bzzz! bzzz!”

there’s a little red snake playing in the water
a little red snake doing what he oughter
he frightened the duck and the frog so bad
he ate the bug and he said “I’m glad
I’m a little red snake playing in the water
hiss! hiss! hiss!”

now there’s nobody left sitting in the water
nobody left doing what he oughter
there’s nothing left but the lily pad
the duck and the frog ran away, I’m sad
’cause there’s nobody left sitting in the water

boo! hoo! hoo!

More dino fun!

September 27, 2011

We have been having a great time with dinosaurs!  We loved dancing to Laurie Berkners “We are the Dinosaurs”  and marched around the room and acted out parts of the song.  Then we made our plastic dino friends march in paint and stomp them onto paper to make dinosaur footprints.

We Are The Dinosaurs
We are the dinosaurs, Marching, Marching!
We are the dinosaurs
Whaddaya Think of That?!?!?
We are the dinosaurs, Marching, Marching
We are the Dinosaurs, we make the earth FLAT
We make the earth FLAT!!!
(verse)
We stop and eat our food, when we’re in the mood
We stop and eat our food on the groooouuound
We stop and eat our food, when we’re in the mood
We stop and eat our food and then we march around
Cause
(refrain)
We are the dinosaurs, Marching, Marching!
We are the dinosaurs
Whaddaya Think of That?!?!?
We are the dinosaurs, Marching, Marching
We are the Dinosaurs, we make the earth FLAT
We make the earth FLAT!!!
(verse)
We stop and take a rest, over in our nest
We stop and take a rest at the end of the day
We stop and take a rest, over in our nest
We stop and take a rest and then you’ll hear us say
Roar!!!
(refrain)
We are the dinosaurs, Marching, Marching!
We are the dinosaurs
Whaddaya Think of That?!?!?
We are the dinosaurs, Marching, Marching
We are the Dinosaurs, we make the earth FLAT
We make the earth FLAT!!!
And then we ROOOOAAARRRRR!!!!
Cause we are the Dinosaaaa-aaaa-auurrrrs!!!!!!!!

D is for Dinosaur….

This week we began the letter Dd.  We had a great time learning all about Dinosaurs, learning new songs, reading lots of dino books and of course making lots of dinosaur art work!

Dinosaur

(to the tune of O Christmas Tree)

Oh dinosaur,

oh dinosuar

How big you are to me.

Oh dinosaur,

oh dinosaur,

As big as big can be.

You are so heavy,

and so tall,

You really make me feel so small.

Oh dinosaur,

oh dinosaur,

How big you are to me.

This is what was left after cutting out the dinosaur spikes, we saved these to use for another craft, maybe a snowflake?
