Ikea….I think I love you!

September 20, 2011

Ok, I admit it….I have been having a love affair with Ikea!  I have found so many great things for my classroom there!  And everything is so inexpensive too.  It’s  a good thing that the closest one is about a 30 minute drive or I would be there everyday.  I had to write a post on this and share some of the great and cheap finds from Ikea.  And I can never leave without getting some coffee (delish and organic) and some cinnamon rolls!

Not so prickly cactus….

Today we continued to talk about the letter Cc and the cactus!  We looked at many different cactus pictures and how different they can be.  Some have lots of needles, some have flowers and some even look like cucumbers!  We learned why the cactus have needles (so they won’t get eaten…and they actually help the cactus to retain water) and then made some during Arts and Crafts.

First we started with a card stock cactus template and green paint

Then, we glued tooth picks onto the cactus for the needles

C is for Caterpillar!

September 19, 2011

Today we started the week learning all about the letter Cc, what starts with C and the sound it makes. We read “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” By Eric Carle. This is a classic that the children and I love! The children liked the part when the caterpillar ate all of the sweets and junk food best. We then learned a song about caterpillars and then crawled like them too. During Arts and Crafts we made The Very Hungry Caterpillar out of the kids hands and added an eaten leaf that he ate through in the book.
