C is for Cat and Cupcakes….

We had a fun and busy week celebrating the letter Cc!  We read many books about cats and made some cute crafts to go along with the stories we read.

Sing with Me

Callie Cat

(to the tune of: “Yankee Doodle”)

Callie Cat lives in the country.

Callie likes canoeing.

Callie likes to wear a C no matter what

she’s doing.

Callie rides in her canoe. Connie Cow

climbs in too.

Callie says: “Meow, look out!” and

Connie Cow says, “Moo-moo!”

St. Patrick’s Day…

With St. Patrick’s Day just around the corner we got into the Irish spirit and made lots of fun and festive decorations for our room and bulletin board.

We also read “There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Clover” by Lucille Colandro and “The Night Before St. Patrick’s Day” by Natasha Wing.

Sing with Me

I’m a Little Leprechaun

(to the tune: “I’m a Little Teapot”)

I’m a little leprechaun
Dressed in green,
The tiniest man
That you have seen.
If you ever catch me, so it’s told,
I’ll give you my big pot of gold.

I’m a Little Shamrock

(to the tune: “I’m a Little Teapot”)

I’m a little shamrock
look at me
oh what color can I be

If you said that I was
the color green
then stand right up and YELL
YIPPEE!

Craft Time

We had painted a rainbow with the children’s hand prints outside the week before.  I then cut around the rainbow to add to our bulletin board as well as a large pot of gold and hand print shamrocks.

For letter R week, we had made rainbows out of paper plates, cotton balls and colorful streamers.  I left these up as a part of our St. Patrick’s Day decor.

R is for Rooster….

We had a fun week learning all about the letter Rr.  Along with learning about rain and rainbows (click here to see previous post) we learned all about the rooster with a book, song and craft!

Sing With Me

Reggie Rooster

(To the tune of “Hush Little Baby”)
Reggie Rooster builds an R that’s red.

Raises it high up over his head.

On Reggie’s roof shines his red R.

All the roosters think that he’s a star.

Story Time

book for preschoolers

We read “Rooster’s Off to See the World” by Eric Carle.  This is such a great book to read aloud because the children work on their counting skills as you read along.  The rooster encounters a number of animals along his way who join him on his adventure and then as they leave and you count them down.  And I also love Eric Carle’s beautiful water color illustrations.

Craft Time

rooster craft

We made paper plate roosters to go along with our book and song.
