B is for Bear…..

We had a super fun week filled with lots of Teddy Bear excitement!  We celebrated the letter Bb and devoted the entire week to bears.  We made cute bear crafts, sang some songs, played a Honey Hunt game and ended the week with a Teddy Bear Picnic.  I can remember when I was little I had the record (yes, there were records when I was little :) )of the song “Teddy Bears Picnic”.  This themed week brought back lots of memories.  This is one of my favorite themes to do with children!

Lyrics by Henry Hall

If you go down in the woods today you’re sure of a big surprise
If you go down in the woods today you’d better go in disguise
For every bear that ever there was will gather there for certain
Because today’s the day the Teddy Bears have their picnic

Every Teddy Bear who’s been good is sure of a treat today
There’s lots of marvelous things to eat and wonderful games to play
Beneath the trees where nobody sees they’ll hide and seek as long as they please
That’s the way the Teddy Bears have their picnic
Picnic time for Teddy Bears
The little Teddy Bears are having a lovely time today

Watch them, catch them unawares and see them picnic on their holiday
See them gaily gad about
They love to play and shout
They never have any cares
At six o’clock their Mummies and Daddies will take them home to bed
‘Cause they’re tired little Teddy Bears

If you go down in the woods today you better not go alone
It’s lovely down in the woods today but safer to stay at home
For every bear that ever there was will gather there for certain
Because today’s the day the Teddy Bears have their picnic

Teddy Bear Picnic

(To the tune “Up on the Housetop”)

The teddy bears when to the park to play..

They are having a picnic today

They played ball and ran races.

They ate honey and licked their faces!

Yum, yum, yum-honey in my tum.

Yum, yum, yum-I’ll have some!

The teddy bears went to the park to play.

They are having a picnic today.

Ground Hog’s Day…

We celebrated Groundhog’s Day today.  February 2 was the actual day, but because it fell on a Saturday we celebrated today.  We read a few stories about the famous animal and made a fun and easy craft too!  Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow this year….early spring!

Sing with Me

I’m a Little Groundhog

(to the tune “I’m a Little Teapot”)

I’m a little ground hog

Furry and brown

When winter comes

I sleep underground.

I’m curled up

As cozy as can be.

When it’s spring please wake up me!

Then six more weeks of winter- Oh No!

Z is for Zebra and Zoo….

Our classroom was a zoo this week as we learned all about the letter Zz.  We had so much fun learning a song about Zelda Zebra and making a fun hand print craft to go along with it.  We became zoo animals and acted out parts of the story “Zoo Looking” and ended the week with a special Zebra Cake snack too!

Read with Me

letter z story for preschoolers

We read “Zack the Lazy Zebra” by Wendy Cheyette Lewison, “Zoo Looking” by Mem Fox and “Animal Strike at the Zoo” by Karma Wilson.  These are all fun books to read aloud that teach about zoo animals and the letter Z.

We made these fun zoo masks out of Zoo Pals paper plates.  We cut the eyes out of the plates and glued a popsicle stick handle onto them.  As I read the book “Zoo Looking”  the children listened for when I read the name of their animal and then acted out the part of that animal.
