Snowmen, Snowmen Everywhere….

We had a super fun week learning all about winter, snow and snowmen.  We were very busy reading snowman books, singing songs and making lots of crafts.  We even had a very special, yummy Fun Friday snack that looked like a snowman.

Build a Little Snowman

(to the tune of “I’m a Little Teapot)

Build a little snowman, starting with his feet.

Put on lots of snow, and pat it all so neat.

Then make a round ball, and put it up on top.

Then the sun will come out and make the snowman hot.

preschool book snow, snowman

We read “Snowballs” by Lois Ehlert.  She is one of my favorite children’s authors.  The illustrations of the snow family in the book are made with recycled everyday items found around the house.  This inspired us to make our own recycled snowmen out of shredded paper.

We started with shredded paper.

We then made a glue outline of a snowman and added the paper to the glue.

We read “The Snowman Storybook” by Raymond Briggs.  This beautifully illustrated book tells the story of a little boy and his snowman that comes to life one night and takes him on an adventure.

We read “Snowmen at Night” and “Snowmen at Christmas” by Caralyn Buchner.  This is a fun series all about snowmen who come to life and have mischevious adventures while the world is asleep.

We made snowman faces out of paper plates and a round sponge dipped in black paint for the eyes and mouth.

preschool snowman snacks

We made these fun snowman snacks to finish the week of snowmen.  To make the snowmen you need:  mini bagels, cream cheese, coconut, chocolate chips and Cheetos.  Spread the cream cheese onto one half of the bagel, top with coconut and chocolate chips and a small piece of Cheeto for the nose.
