V is for Vulture….

Vultures are kind of yucky creatures, but that didn’t stop us from having fun while learning about them and the letter Vv!

The Vulture

The vulture eats between his meals

And that’s the reason why

He very, very rarely feels

As well as you or I.

His eyes are dull

His head is bald

His neck is growing thinner

Oh, what a lesson for us all

To only eat at dinner.

We read Vulture View by April Pulley Sayer and Vultures by Roland Smith

We made hand print vultures for craft time!  I think they turned out pretty good, since I couldn’t find a craft on vultures and had to “wing” it!

After adding a pink thumb print, it is starting to look like a vulture.

Spring Break = Dinosaur Week!

March 12-16 was Spring Break.  We took a little break from our usual curriculum to celebrate dinosaurs.  We learned all about meat eaters (carnivores), plant eaters (herbivores) and all dinosaurs of every shape and size!

I Love Dinosaurs

Some were big and some were small.

Me?  I want to learn them all.

Some ate plants and some ate meat.

Me?  I think they all are neat.

Some used two legs and some used four.

Me?  I love all dinosaurs!

Tuesday March 13th

The How Do Dinosaurs series of books were a big hit with the kids!  We read How Do Dinosaurs Go to School? and How Do Dinosaurs Eat their Food?  by Jane Yolen and Mark Teague.  These books teach great lessons on manners, taking care of pets, going to bed, going to school ect.

Scholastic has also transformed the dinosaur books into movies on DVD that we watched this week.

We made Dinosaur Trail Mix for snack.  It is a mix of twigs (pretzel sticks), berries (raisins) and dinosaur foot prints (honey comb cereal).

We made a brontosaurus out of a paper plate for craft time.

Wednesday March 14th

We read Dinosaurs Galore by Giles Andrea and Dinosailors by Deb Lund.  Really fun books that the kids loved!

The dinosaurs had fun stomping around in the sand in our sensory table.

We made handprint stegasaurus during craft time.

Thursday March 15th

We read My Big Dinosaur Book by Roger Priddy and Dinosaur Train by John Steven Gurney.

Dinosaur Stomping

(to the tune of “The Ants Go Marching”)

Dinos stomping one by one.

Let’s stomp! Let’s stomp!

Dinos stomping one by one.

The little one stopped to have some fun.

And they all went stomping.

On the ground

To see how it sounds!

Boom!  Boom!  Boom!

Additional verses:

Two by two; hollered, Boo!

Three by three;  ate a tree!

Four by four;  and gave a roar!

Five by five; and danced the jive!

For snack we made a yummy dinosaur tooth snack.  We crunched up graham crackers and spread  half of a banana with peanut butter then rolled the banana into the graham cracker crumbs.

The finished dinosaur tooth snack!  Yummy!

For craft time, we made a fun peek a boo dinosaur!

A “Seuss-tacular” Good Week….

This week we have been celebrating the birthday of Theodore Geisel a.k.a. Dr. Seuss.   March 2, marked Dr. Seuss’ 108th birthday!  Theodore Geisel was a literary genius who taught us that we should celebrate our differences, be wacky and zany, be who you are and  that you can find magic, whimsy and creativity in the most ordinary of things.   Each day this week was spent reading, creating, singing, eating and dressing up in all things Seuss.  Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss!

“Today you are You,

that is truer than true.

There is no one alive who is Youer than You!

~Dr. Seuss

Do You Know a Cat?

(to the tune of Do Your Ears Hang Low)

Do you know a cat

In a very tall striped hat?

An umbrella on his arm,

He is always full of charm!

He is silly as can be.

If you meet him, you will see.

Do you know this cat?

And a fox in a box,

Eat them here.
