Fall, Fall Fun is here!

We have had so much fun getting ready for Halloween and the fall season!

Story Time

We read “It’s Pumpkin Time” by Zoe Hall and “Pumpkin Pumpkin” by Jeanne Titherington.  These are great books that show the growth of a pumpkin from seed to plant.

Sing with Me

Pumpkin Song

(to the tune of: “I’m a Little Teapot”)

I’m a little pumpkin,

Orange and round.

Here is my stem.

There is the ground.

When I get all cut up,

Don’t you shout!

Just open me up

And scoop me out!

Arts and Crafts

Pumpkin Seeds

pumpkin crafts

We made a pumpkin seed craft after we scooped out the seeds and pulp.  The children picked out 5 seeds and glued them onto a pumpkin cut out.

Paper Plate Candy Corn

The children painted a paper plate orange and yellow and after they were dry,  I cut them into triangles to look just like candy corn.  I hung them up in the classroom on a garland for our festive decorations.

Bulletin Board

5 Little Pumpkins

Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate

The first one said “Oh my it’s getting late”

The second one said “There are witches in the air”

The third one said “But we don’t care”

The fourth one said “Let’s run and run and run”

The fifth one said “I’m ready for some fun”

Ooooo went the wind and out went the light

And the five little pumpkins rolled out of sight.

fall bulletin board

We made our fall bulletin board based on the poem “Five Little Pumpkins”.

Sensory Play

I got our class a pumpkin and before we cut it open I asked the class: “What is inside a pumpkin?”  I loved hearing their inventive responses!  They were so excited to see what really was hiding inside a pumpkin!

The children loved touching and squeezing the ooey gooey pumpkin pulp and seeds!

After hollowing it out, I gave our pumpkin a face and a silly grin and put him on display to wish everyone a  Happy Halloween!

X is for X Ray…

We learned all about the letter Xx this week.  Xx can be a pretty tough letter to find things that start with it, but we focused on the x ray and made a fun skeleton x ray of the children’s arms.

Story Time

We read “Skeleton Hiccups” by Margery Cuyler a silly story all about how a skeleton tries to get rid of his hiccups.

Sing with Me

Mr. X Ray

(to the tune of “Hush Little Baby”)

Look at Mr. X Ray. See him smile.

Talk to Mr. X Ray for a while.

Listen to him say, “X marks the spot”

He likes letter X a lot!

Arts and Crafts

x ray skeleton craft

We made fun x rays of the kids arms and hands by tracing their arms with white crayon onto black paper and then added Q Tips for the bones!  They loved this craft.  We talked all about x rays and how they are a picture of your bones.
