O is for Ostrich….

This week, we are learning all about the letter Oo.  Today we learned all about the Ostrich!  It is such a strange animal from Africa, with his long neck and large flightless body.  They are very fast, running at about 31 mph.  We got our exercise today too by running in place like an ostrich during Circle Time. We read some books about the Ostrich and even made a cute hand print ostrich too!

Odd Ostrich

(to the tune of “If You’re Happy and You Know It”)

Oh, I wish I was an odd ostrich.

Oh, I wish I was an odd ostrich.

Oh, I’d run really fast,

And I’d sleep in the grass.

Oh, I wish I was an odd ostrich.

Bear Week comes to an end….

We had a great time celebrating Bear Week!  To end the week we read Goldilocks and acted out the story with cute masks.  Each child had their own little  book that they colored and they could follow along as we read the story.  We also watched Winnie the Pooh and had popcorn as a special treat to end our celebration week!

We read Goldilocks and the Three Bears Retold and illustrated by Jan Brett.  Her books are always a treat to read.  Her illustrations are gorgeous and so detailed.  She even creates a frame on the page,  the sides of the page are illustrated and tell a little story as well.  I highly recommend any book by Jan Brett, the children seem to really enjoy them and looking at the beautiful illustrations.

Today we learned all about Polar Bears as we continued celebrating Bear Week.   We had a great time eating lunch with our Teddies at the Teddy Bear Picnic and learning new songs and games!

We made hand print polar bears to go along with our story.

We got out the felt board during Circle Time and learned a new song for Bear Week:

The Bear Went Over the Mountain

(to the tune of “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow”)

The bear went over the mountain,
The bear went over the mountain,
The bear went over the mountain,
To see what he could see

To see what he could see,
To see what he could see

The other side of the mountain,
The other side of the mountain,
The other side of the mountain,
Was all that he could see

Was all that he could see,
Was all that he could see,
The other side of the mountain,
Was all that he could see!

We made a special Bear Week snack too!

bear claw biscuits

We made Bear Claw Biscuits for snack today! These were so much fun to make and eat. The claws are just slivered almonds and the tops are dusted with cinnamon and sugar.

Since it was pretty rainy and we couldn’t go on the playground, we got out the parachute.

The teddies all got to go for a fun ride on the parachute!
