F is for Fire Safety Week

We have started letter Ff this week and Fire Safety Week as well.  We learned all about firefighters today, what they do and how they can help us.  We read the book “Firefighters to the Rescue!” by Kersten Hamilton and learned the poem/finger play Five Little Firefighters.  Then for art we made the Five Little Firefighters out of the children’s hand prints and made cute Dalmation paper bag puppets!  We had a fun and busy Monday!  Look for more to come as we learn all about fish and more Fire Safety.

Five Little Firefighters

Five little firefighters spray the fire,

The first one says, “Put the ladder higher!”

The second one says, “This fire’s getting hot!”

The third one says, “Give the hose another shot.”

The fourth one says, “Take a look about.”

The fifth one says, “The fire is all out!”

“Egg”cellent Eggs…

Yesterday we started the week with E and eggs.  During Circle Time we read “Green Eggs and Ham” the loved classic by Dr. Seuss and learned a new game using an egg carton.  The carton cups were numbered and we put a marble inside, then the kids shook the carton while we chanted a poem.  Then they opened the carton and had to say the number where the marble landed.  This game was not only fun,  they were also learning number recognition.  Then we made hatching eggs, with a baby e coming out of the egg.

E is for Elephant!

We continued with letter E today and learned all about elephants.  We read the “Enormous Elephant Show” from my Alphatales book.  Then we turned the children’s hands into elephants.  The kids weren’t sure how we were going to do that and didn’t believe that their hand could turn into an elephant!  It was a lot of fun to see the looks on their faces when they saw the finished project.
