Terrific Turtles…

Tuesday was turtle day!  We learned all about turtles and the letter Tt.  We learned all about turtles and why they have a protective shell…then we pretended to be turtles and curl up inside our own shells.

We sang a cute song about a turtle named Mr. Box.  This is one of my favorites that I have been singing for years.

Snappy Turtle

There was a snappy turtle, his name was Mr. Box

He swam in the river, he climbed up on the rocks (make swimming motions and climbing motions)

He snapped at the ladybug (clap hands together)

He snapped at the bee (clap hands together)

He snapped at the firefly (clap hands together)

He snapped at me (clap hands together)

He caught the ladybug (clap hands together)

He caught the bee (clap hands together)

He caught the firefly (clap hands together)

But he didn’t, no he didn’t catch me!

We read Turtle Splash A Countdown at the Pond by Cathryn Falwell

Turtle Splash is a beautiful book all about a pond in the forest.  Not only do you see turtles, but you also can see deer, bull frogs, ducks, rabbits and squirrels and learn all about life in the forest.

More books to read: The Foolish Tortoise by Richard Buckley and How the Turtle Got His Shell and other stories from around the world

We then made turtles during craft time out of half of a paper plate.
