Our classroom was a zoo this week as we learned all about the letter Zz. We had so much fun learning a song about Zelda Zebra and making a fun hand print craft to go along with it. We became zoo animals and acted out parts of the story “Zoo Looking” and ended the week with a special Zebra Cake snack too!
Read with Me
We read “Zack the Lazy Zebra” by Wendy Cheyette Lewison, “Zoo Looking” by Mem Fox and “Animal Strike at the Zoo” by Karma Wilson. These are all fun books to read aloud that teach about zoo animals and the letter Z.
We made these fun zoo masks out of Zoo Pals paper plates. We cut the eyes out of the plates and glued a popsicle stick handle onto them. As I read the book “Zoo Looking” the children listened for when I read the name of their animal and then acted out the part of that animal.
Sing With Me
(Tune: “L’il Liza Jane”)
Zelda Zebra zips and zooms
here at the zoo.
Zelda zips and zooms by Zeek
and Zoe, too.
Zelda tells Zeek, “I do like Z!”
Zeek tells Zelda, “I do agree!”
We made hand print zebras to go along with our zoo and zebra theme.
We added a few black stripes, a mane, tail and google eye to complete the craft.
We made Ziti necklaces by painting the noodles, letting them dry and then stringing them.
We ate yummy Zebra Cakes to end our fun week all about the zoo and the letter Z!
